Energy efficiency in the paper manufacturing process, thanks to an enzymatic solution.

Over time, the paper industries have acquired a bad image, due to the fact that they use considerable quantities of energy for mechanical refining and the drying process.

This is why, for the sake of profitability and sustainability, paper mills are looking to reduce their use of energy and their use of chemical products. Enzymes provide a safe and reliable solution to resolve these issues.

Enzymatic solution

" Enzymes are proteins that transform all organic matter into smaller water-soluble compounds". Some categories of enzymes (cellulase, hemicellulase, pectinase, β-glucanase, etc.) are capable of breaking down vegetable fibres and wood fibres. These enzymes are capable of acting on paper pulp and carry out a partial and controlled refining of the fibres. The enzymatic treatment of this pulp reduces the need for mechanical refining and significantly reduces the use of energy.

This treatment also improves the paper's characteristics.

CELODEV has more than 10 years' experience and vast knowledge of the technical processes of the paper industry.

This collaboration brings a complementarity of skills, which is beneficial for the application of enzymes in the paper industry.

REALCO and CELODEV have developed enzyme-based processes the aim of which is to refine and improve the drying of any characteristics of the paper. These processes have been created for different paper pulps: TMP, bleached chemical pulp, recycles paper.

Various processes associated with the applications on each specific pulp have been developed.

REALCO and CELODEV have also formulated an inhibition process which can stop the enzymatic reaction directly, and subsequently restart it.
